Istifta’ about the obsessive Mulla and performing marriage
Istifta’ [seeking the opinion of a Muslim cleric] about an obsessive Mulla who washes himself naked in cold water to the degree that his finger nails bleed and his body is harmed. The author asks whether this man is allowed to perform a marriage ceremony and if he can lead congregational prayer. Ayatollah Sadiq ibn Muhammad Tabatabayi has written his answer: he is not qualified to lead the prayer, but performing the marriage ceremony depends on his knowledge, unless the obsession has affected his mental capacities as well.
